Economic Advantages
There are huge economic advantages with having healthy, active kids: billions in savings for health care that is being spent fighting child obesity & diabetes, lower costs for social services as active kids have much lower rates of juvenile delinquency & teen pregnancies.

The other significant factor is that these active kids are helping to build a stronger economy. Study after study show that active kids do better in school even when you isolate socio-economic factors (e.g. using the same group of kids, they performed better in soccer season compared to their off-season despite having all this extra time). As a result, they acquire the education and high end job skills that are in demand.

That was the basic theme of Don Patterson’s MBA study 10 years ago: Active Kids > Higher Academics > Skilled Jobs > Stronger Economy. Businesses today totally understand this: they want healthy employees which results in less absenteeism and higher productivity. If our kids can excel in school, they’ll fill the skilled jobs where there’s a talent shortage. Companies look to set up and expand where they have access to a healthy, educated workforce.
With healthy active kids, everybody wins!
